The Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group’s Bronze Otter award is presented each year to the Devon farmer who best demonstrates commercial farming combined with environmental management. 26/06/2011 Free service cuts energy costs for North Devon farmer
A
North Devon poultry farmer has recently achieved some significant
energy savings at his farm following the installation of insulation and a
new LED lighting system with the help of Business Link’s
Rural service. This is a free service under the Resource Efficiency for
Farms (R4F) programme, administered across the South West by Business
Link’s Rural service.

14/06/2011 Apprenticeships: Delivering the Coalition’s Vision
The
Employment and Skills Partnership (ESP) Alliance met on 11 May 2011 to
discuss the topic, Apprenticeships – Delivering the
Coalition’s Vision. Apprenticeship numbers have grown
significantly in recent years, yet if the challenging targets that have
been set for training providers in England are to be achieved, there
will need to be a further ramping-up of delivery. To support this, the
ESP organised an Alliance workshop, supported by research from the
Skills and Learning Intelligence Module of the South West Observatory
(SLIM), to help identify challenges and potential solutions. The

22/03/2011 EMA Briefing - Impact of its loss, an oral answer
Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Schools: Lord Hill of Oareford. House of Lords, 7th March 2011.
The
Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) is currently paid to 45 per cent
of 16 to 18 year-olds in full-time education at a cost of £560
million a year. Research commissioned by the previous Government showed
that about one in 10 of those receiving EMA would not have continued in
learning without it. Current administration are currently considering
the replacement arrangements with the aim of targeting support more
closely on those facing the greatest financial barriers to participation
through enhancement to Learner Support funds currently distributed to
FE and schools Final decisions about the quantum of extra Learner
Support funding have still to be taken, but a value of up to three times
the current value of the fund, which is now at £25.4 million
has been suggested.
