Devon Worklessness Forum

This website is new and still under construction. If you have any ideas or suggestions for it then please don't hesitate to get in contact with us. Thank you!

The worklessness indicator in the Local Area Agreement (LAA 24) aims to:

  1. Reduce the gap in benefit claim rates and unemployment rates between the worst performing neighbourhoods and the average for Devon by supporting more people into sustained work.
  2. Devon also has a specific national target which reports to and supports the above - to increase the number of adults registered with social services who do paid work.

The Devon Worklessness Forum is chaired by Janet Sinclair, Partnership Manager at Job Centre Plus, who is responsible for LAA 24, with the aim to increase the number of successful outcomes for unemployed people and employers.

To drive the 'worklessness' agenda the Devon Worklessness Forum brings together, on a bi-monthly basis, a wide range of key agencies from the statutory and voluntary sector who work with unemployed people. These meetings exist for partners to share information, identify priorities, remain updated on policy and/or provision, to plan actions and to improve networking.

People who are Workless tend to have multiple barriers to work and by joining our expertise and working closer together and by making links to other LAA objectives, the Worklessness Group aims to find routes into employment for priority customers with a specific focus on priority communities, where the density of worklessness is highest.

A 'Spider's Web Diagram' has been produced, along with explanatory notes, to explain the role of the Worklessness Group and its relationship with other agencies and organisations. It is hoped that these documents, available on the links above, will help to improve partnership working and co-ordinated action to achieve our common objectives.
